Good GRACIOUS it's been a long time since we've posted! In addition to alot of regular life happenings, we have all just been busy dancing, choreographing, rehearsing and costuming!
Most recently, we've been working on video auditions for submission to the Vancouver and Las Vegas Burlesque festivals in hopes of the chance to perform and compete, respectively. Check back soon for some photos and results - we just can't share them quite yet!
In the meantime, here's a clip from one of the Screaming Chicken's recent Taboo Revue shows, in which Blush Lane, Boom Boom Buffet and Shea de Ville play southern belles, heating it up on Wash Day. They are really suffering from the heat until they discover the best way to cool off - removing their clothing of course! Enjoy.

We are the SparklePussies
We are a group of eight highly diverse women who have come together to share our love of glamour, glitter, performing, dancing, sass, satire and classic strip tease.
The Sparklepussies are also members of Screaming Chicken Theatrical Society.
At the end of the day ‘WE JUST WANNA DANCE”!
The SparklePussies are:
SHEA DeVILLE
Shea is our Mama cat. She whips us into shape when we need it! Imagine 7 little rambunctious kittens pawing at each other and rolling around during a rehearsal… mama cat comes in and puts an end to it and FAST. This is our Shea. She is our rock and our biggest personality. She is amazing, beautiful and SASSY on stage and off!
Shea has been performing ever since she was old enough to scream at an audience for attention.
A life-long student of dance, she has performed professionally in genres ranging from Argentine tango, belly dance, to precision chorus-line tap and jazz, which she studied for 10 years with Betty McHardy, a former Radio City Music Hall Rockette. Shea has performed for events, festivals and productions at venues on three continents including a stint on a Cairo-based Nile River cruise ship.
Shea is never able to resist the urge to bedazzle anything that stands still long enough to affix with a sequin.
BLUSH LANE
Blush is our man candy cat. We cant go anywhere without men lining up to talk to her. She is beautiful, sassy and a mother of two! YES, hard to believe! We know!
Blush keeps us organized and takes care of all the behind the scenes details.
Where ever Blush goes you will be sure to find a trail of broken hearts, that of young men who are hoping for a single moment with her.
BOOM BOOM BUFFET
Miss Boom Boom Buffet…. She is the animal of the group with the loudest voice, biggest laugh and wildest personality. Being in her presence is sure to make anyone lose his or her inhibitions and turn a quiet evening into a dance induced karaoke session.. with Boom Boom on the mic belting out Salt n Peppa’s ‘shoop’.
Boom Boom’s comedic stylings and naughty flare gives the Sparklepussies their edge and her extensive dance/performance background contributes to their sexy and fun choreography.
DAME BOOTY DENCH
Dame Booty Dench is the sweet, quiet kitten with big personality on stage. She explodes into a sultry seductress once music is queued as she takes to the stage.
Watching her move is a guilty pleasure, she moves with style and grace and can morph to sharp and edgy at a blink of an eye….. she keeps you wanting more.
DB Dench is a dancer, actress, comedienne extraordinaire, her talents cease to end. She is a member of Screaming Chicken Theatrical Society, helping out with choreography for The Becoming Burlesque two month intensive. She also starred in Screaming Chicken's "Grease" production where she also showed us her singing skills… like I said before, her talents cease to end.
SADIE SWEETCHEEKS
Sadie Sweetcheeks…. Her name says it all, SWEETCHEEKS. There is nothing small about this lady, and by that I mean she is tall, beautiful, has big doll BLUE eyes, her laugh, her stage presence, she has a personality that will win anyone over........
And lastly, that ASS! Oh that luscious ASS
Sadie is our kooky cat; she always has something to contribute to any conversation, which usually ends in some sort of joke or lightening up the subject with her incredible sense of humor. We are so proud of this lady because she is debuting her first ‘sexy’ act and her first ‘singing’ act at a SparklePussies Cabaret on Oct 15th… two birds with one stone! This is our kooky cat Sadie. She never ceases to surprise us with her ability to own the stage.
FLORA FANNY
Flora Fanny is our baby cat. She is the youngest of the group but already embraces everything woman. She is an incredible artist with a hand and eye for exquisite makeup and hair styling. A recent graduate of hair and makeup school, Flora is usually the artist who has painted one a many SparklePussy. She is a character on and off stage; her facial expressions are classics, ones that would fit right in a 1920’s silent film movie.
You will usually find Flora embracing her comedic side keeping you in stitches as you watch her cunningly execute her act and keep you entertained with her ability to express herself with her face.
She is our baby cat and we love her very much!
LEXI VON VONDERFUL
Lexi Von Vonderful is our rookie cat. She is the newest member of the SparklePussies.
She is a funky lady with some serious style and brings a refreshing, new energy to the group.
Lexi has amazed us with her ideas as well as her musical talents. When she is not playing with the SparklePussies, you can find her dancing with The Carnival Band and taking singing lessons. What an incredible woman!
We are excited to debut her at A SparklePussies Cabaret!
VERONICA VEX
Veronica Vex is our sexy kitten.
At times she doesn’t mean to be sexy, she just is.
Veronica’s love for the stage runs deep. She has been dancing for over ten years, which is evident and shows in all her performances as she moves to the music luring in her audience as they await her every move with anticipation. Her ability to choreograph is inspiring and her stage presence is powerful and captivating.
Veronica also has a soft and sweet side that is quite alluring on stage and off.
She is a dancer, she is a performer and her passion for the art of burlesque will keep her on the stage for as long as her body will allow.
Veronica has performed all over Vancouver and has recently performed in New York alongside Calamity Chang, Gemini Rising, Medianoche Burlesque, Bettina May and Shelly Watson.
We are always excited and intrigued as to what she will do next….

Wowee! Shea DeVille here and I am THRILLED and honoured to be part of an amazing ensemble cast in Screaming Chicken Theatrical Society's latest production. Terror at Rock Out Beach is a high-camp, tongue-in-cheek parody of the teen beach-party flicks of the 50's and 60's. Throw a dash of sass and ass into the mix... and you get a burlesque musical! A stripsical, no less!
Clickity-click right here for more information and tickets! Opening night is August 18th and is running Thursday-Sunday through to the 27th.
Seriously, how can you miss a show that has mad-scientists named Ochre and Yurgi Schplegen, or Beach Bunnies named Sandy, Mandy and Candy! Trust me, this original script by the one and only Melody Mangler, will have you doling out the titters, gasps and guffaws in equal measure! Opening night is already selling out fast, so get your tix soooooon!

We were on such a roll with regular posts and then this annoying thing called real-life somehow managed to find a way to interfere with the universe of burlesque. The SparklePussies have had a lot of stuff going on in our personal lives... everything from serious illness to the loss of a parent. Combine that with the regular ins and outs of seven distinct and crazy lives and we had to take a bit of a hiatus. But never fear! We ain't gone for long!
Various of the SparklePussies have been and will be performing in the Okanagan, Victoria, The River Rock Casino, and of course as part of Screaming Chicken's ongoing Taboo Revues! Rather than yack a lot, I'm just going to post a video link and some photos from this past Friday's show at Wise Hall. It was a really fun night with a full-house, and Shea DeVille debuting as co-host with the cutie patootie Coco Cinders.
Here's Shea DeVille doing a new number with the intense and fabulous Aida Manic. I love that burlesque is a medium that allows us to combine razor wire, camouflage, and a wedding dress all in one routine! This number got a pretty damn loud reaction. Check it out.
Below are some of my favourite stills of the night, taken by the ever dutiful Greg McKinnon.
Coco Cinders, Violet Femme, Shea DeVille
Aida Manic as Amy Winehouse
Sparkle Plenty shakes it up!
Foxy Lady!
The lovely Miss Sweet Sashay of the VanDolls.
YumYum Doll looking very Yum Yum indeed!
Aida, you are one hot cookie!
Two of the sweetest chickens EVER. Coco Cinders and Sweet Pea Magee.
Malvina Mas Vino from the VanDolls.
The INCOMPARABLE Melody Mangler.
Love the look on Vava Vunderbust's face.
VanDolls being pretty pretty birdies.
Fellow SparklePussy, Veronica Vex, SMOKED up the stage with this hot routine.
The ever lovely and talented Voodoo Pixie.
Whatsername looking FIERCE! What a fun, fun night! I LOVE BURLESQUE!

Special thanks to photographers: Greg McKinnon, Ian West, and Brian Leung.
(Dame Booty Dench sports a rakish moustache.)
Shea DeVille here. You know, all of us in the SparklePussies truly believe there was some sort of fate or divine intervention that led to us meeting eachother. We are such a truly diverse group of women and the instant connection we felt for eachother meant that the SparklePussies literally just formed itself without any serious effort! I think that's what happens when you get a synergy of mutual love and respect. And we DO love and respect eachother a LOT.
So, I figure I want to sing the praises of my fellow Pussies. Today, I'm going to extoll the virtues of the sweetest of all the Pussies... Dame Booty Dench. In fact, this girl is so SWEET that I think I'm going to dub her Sugar Puss.
I think that one of the things that makes Dame such an amazing burlesque talent is her incredible diversity as a performer. Holy cow, I've seen this woman glide effortlessly from straight up slap-stick raunch, to innocent girly-girl, to stealth temptress all within one freaking NIGHT!
The reason I find this so astounding, is that nobody could ever pigeon-hole her as a certain specific type of burlesque performer. I wouldn't even try! She's equally comfortable and convincing in a traditional gown and glove routine that oozes elegance and maturity, as she is in total goof-ball comedy. Certainly, there are lots of other performers in this town that I would put in this same category... Violet Femme and Melody Mangler come to mind immediately... and those women have been doing burlesque for years! I think it's a huge compliment to Dame Booty Dench that I automatically put her in their esteemed company. Granted, this is just my opinion... but I encourage others of you to pipe up in the comments if you agree.
Our little Sugar Puss, Dame Booty Dench, has been seen all OVER town in the one short year since we all met eachother at the Becoming Burlesque program offered by Screaming Chicken Theatrical Society. Following are a few highlights of this girl's amazing talent!
Ah yes, here we have the incomporable Dame Booty Dench doing her fabulous Bear routine. Dame is an incredible dancer, I personally think she's the best of our whole group, and she has an amazing stage presence. Add to this fact that Dame is also one of the most optimistic and naturally happy people I've ever met in my life and it adds up to one powerhouse of a performer! We love you, Dame Booty Dench and that's one damn lucky bear.
Let's see what other pics I can find to share...
Here we have our little Sugar Puss as she's about to seduce a bag of catnip from our bad-ass Pimp Kitty as played by the ever-talented Chai Tea during our signature cat routine.
Predictably, Pimp Kitty gave up the catnip pretty quickly. Who can resist Dame Booty Dench?! Not me!
Greece does Grease. Screaming Chicken's two week theatre production at Waterfront Theatre last summer. Yes, Miss Dame Booty Dench snagged the role of Nymph in this critically aclaimed production. This brand new burlesque performer not only DANCED but had singing and speaking roles as well. What an incredible honour and her fellow Pussies are just so damn HAPPY for her! And PROUD! mewmewmewemw
K... let's see some other pics of our triple-threat powerhouse!
Chuckle. See what I mean? From silver screen siren to creepy slime ball without so much as a blink of those beautiful blue eyes of hers! That's Melody Mangler there in the silver wig, and our Sugar Puss Dame illustrating a full-hip thrust/slimy leer combination that should only be attempted by the most disgusting of would-be-perverts.
Awww... pretty as any Christmas ornament could ever want to be! From left to right we have Little Red Rides it Good, Sweetpea Magee, Ava Lure, and of course, Dame Booty Dench. This was taken back stage at the Christmas edition of Screaming Chicken's Taboo Revue at Wise Hall just this past December.
And last but not least, let's leave you with an extra lovely photo...
What a stunner! Accept this post as a big love letter from your fellow SparklePussies!

Okey doke. More costumey stuff. Before I continue on with a new post, I need to clarify something from my post about Telesis 5 Adhesive and Super Solv. The magic eyelash adhesive and remover that I use. I blogged about it here if you need a refresher or don't know what the heck I'm blabbing about.I need to clarify that I do NOT spend $75 on eyelash glue! Which is what Blush Lane thought when she went to HollyNorth after reading my post and attempted to buy the stuff! Yes, the larger containers are $75, but the one that I buy is just a little bottle the size of a bottle of nail polish and costs $17. I've been using the same bottle for over a year and it's still 3/4 full, so it goes a LOOONG way.
K. Continuing on. So I told you all about Sequin Queen and HollyNorth, so let's talk about fishnets and rhinestones today!
Fishnets to Flatter Heavier Legs
Fishnets can be a burlesque performer's best friend or they can be the biggest pain in the ass. They can make your legs look awesome... or they can enhance that elephant ankle thing. The secret comes down to finding a pair that FITS properly, has the correct size of diamond for your shape, and the amount of spandex in the yarn. Easier said than done if you're a plus-sized gal like myself. The brand and style that has become my burlesque MUST have is Music Legs ML-9001Q Seamless Plus Size Fishnet Pantyhose with Reinforced Sole. I LOVE these. Let me tell you why.
First off, my legs are really NOT my strong suit. Seriously. You have to be honest about what your good and bad features are, and my legs are short. Specifically, my thighs are really short, which means they are also really thick. This has always made hosiery of any sort a real challenge, which is why in real life, I never ever wear them. By the time I get them to a size that COMFORTABLY fits around my thighs and hips they are usually falling down and sagging from either my waist or my crotch. It's a hot look, let me tell ya.
The Music Legs fishnets I bought locally at New World on Cordova in Vancouver for $18 per pair (you can get them for as low as $5 U.S. online) have a reinforced soft sole, which makes these very comfortable to wear inside those ridiculous shoes we like to wear on stage. It gives a bit of squishy factor. Also, they have a very high spandex content (12% spandex - check the label. If they are less than 12% spandex these are NOT the ones I am talking about) which means they CLING to the whole leg, the whole way up (no sagging at ankles or knees) and they have enough spandex in them that I can push down the waist band to hide them inside performance panties or even a g-string, and they stay still put. Another reason that a high spandex content is important is that it makes them much less likely to snag because they are fitted tight to your leg.
If you have to deal with cellulite on your legs, that's where you really want to pay attention to the size of the diamonds. Those big fence-net diamonds looks GREAT on svelte tight legs, but put those on someone with a bit of jiggle? Yikes! On ME at least, it seriously exxagerates the look of my lumps and bumps. Think about it! It's like pressing chicken wire down on a squishy surface! What happens? The squishy stuff ( in this case, my LEGS) would bulge between the wires. Yuck. Whereas the SMALL diamonds, like those Music Legs ones I'm talking about, create more of an overall smoothe surface and camouflage the lumps and bumps. In that case, picture pushing a window screen on a squishy surface... it just smoothes the overall surface! I cleaned New World out of all of their stock, but I know they will be reordering again.
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR RHINESTONES?
This one is super easy. www.rhinestoneguy.com
There are certainly other websites out there but this is the one I keep going back to. They always have great stock, they ship right away, and once I factor customs and shipping costs into the total, Rhinestone Guy is always the cheapest.
The next question I usually get is whether I buy the Czech Preciosa crystals or the Swarovski. I've bought both to test for myself, and I've found that what Rhinestone Guy says on his site is totally true. The Czech crystals (which are slightly cheaper) look better from a distance, ie on stage, whereas the Swarovski look better right up close. Therefore I always now opt for the Czech crystals.
As for size and colour? I strongly suggest that you purchase their sample cards. You really cannot tell what the crystals look like on screen. Unless you only ever plan on buying clear crystals, a colour chart is a must. Another thing that I didn't know until I bought them, is that the smaller the crystal the higher the spark factor under stage lights. But of course it takes a lot more of the small ones to get a high-voltage effect. So, what I've taken to doing is using assorted sizes of rhinestones on applications such as corsets and so on. It's a good way to get a lot of coverage and shine factor. That doesn't work of course, if you are planning on doing a pave of rhinestones, like I've done on the bottoms of shoes or on my pasties. To get that solid look you have to stick to one size of stone, and in those applications smaller is better because you get them fitting tighter together.
As for applying the rhinestones?? I will write a completely separate post about that because even though I did my research I made some mistakes that ended up being costly and I wouldn't want anyone else to repeat my newbie blunders!
